THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Sarah

SARAH PICKERILL | CHAIR

Having competed at a reasonably decent level as a junior many, many years ago I have always loved running, but hadn’t done it for a very long time! When parkrun came to Southport I started to do 5k once a week. In the last few years I have completed the London marathon, many half marathons and numerous 10ks. I’m not quick, I enjoy getting out in nature and most of all I love the social side of running.

Malcolm

MALCOLM TEALE | SECRETARY

I have been a runner for more than 24 years. For the majority of that time, I ran solo for my fitness. I started running with groups 3 years ago and really enjoy the camaraderie and also regularly run parkrun. I started the Tuesday Strollers group in 2019 and get great satisfaction from encouraging others. I am a qualified run leader and guide runner and enjoy being an active member of the Southport Strollers Running Club, as well as keeping their paperwork straight.

PATRICIA NILAND | COACHING

I adore running and have run most of my life. For years I ran on the track and much preferred short distances, run fast, rather than long, slow distance. Nowadays, I am a Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) and love helping other runners improve, whether their goal is a mile, or a marathon. The combination of correct training, diet and mind-set can achieve wonders. I am also a qualified Nutritional Therapist Dip.ION.

HELEN HIBLE | TREASURER

I started running back in 2013 to try and increase my fitness, as the only thing I could run was a bath! In 2017 I became a volunteer at Southport parkrun, but only increased my own running in 2019. I joined the Strollers group and found social running a lot more enjoyable and motivational, which spurred me on to complete the London Virtual Marathon in 2020. I love to encourage and assist new runners.

Lisa

LISA LOWERY | WELFARE OFFICER

My passion, in my spare time, is to run! This started 15 years ago when I was inspired to run by a fellow work colleague and since then its just grown. Running is my saviour and allows me to feel free, reconnect and think. This has led me to run 5k, 10k, half marathons and many more. I used to run alone but since joining Southport Strollers it’s just taken my running to another level, sharing the passion with some amazing people, always supporting and encouraging each other.

Lee

LEE BIBBY | SOCIAL SECRETARY

I started running in 2017 and  was always happy running solo, but because of this, I lost my passion for running. I took myself to Strollers one Thursday and I’ve never looked back. It quickly became clear Strollers it is so much more than a running club, something I’m very happy to be a part of. I look forward to being part of the new  committee, taking the the club forward with lots of exciting ideas, but most of all running with everyone.

Alex

ALEX WALTON | MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY

After hanging up the football boots, I needed a new fitness hobby. Moving from Leeds to Southport I soon signed up for parkrun. Since then running has become a huge part of my life, from parkruns to half marathons I’m there! I joined Strollers in 2020 which has helped me with my motivation and I’m keen to help others reach their potential. Also, it’s a great bunch of people to run with!

Emma Stokes

EMMA STOKES | CROSS COUNTRY SECRETARY

Inspired by Parkrun, I started running in 2017 to improve my fitness and challenge myself to run 50 parkruns by my 50th birthday the following year. Later that year I also attended the first ever Strollers running session and loved the encouragement and support. I have now run 10km races and half marathons and have recently signed up for my first marathon. As a run leader I love supporting fellow runners to achieve their own goals.

LESLEY SYMS | COMMITTEE MEMBER

I didn’t start running until I was 50. It’s been a love/hate relationship over the years as it doesn’t come naturally!  But I love the freedom, mental and physical health benefits that it brings, but moreover the friendships I’ve made. I’ve completed 5k’s to a metric marathon, but I also enjoy a muddy trail runs. I started with Southport Strollers Running Club soon after its inception in 2018 and become a Run Leader at the end of 2019 and love it!

Robert

ROBERT SCOTT-NORTON | COMMITTEE MEMBER

Despite running off and on for over 20 years, I’m not convinced I even like running. I definitely love the feeling of having run, but I rarely wake up excited at the prospect of getting out there. So why run at all? To stay fit, physically and mentally. With Strollers, I’ve got the support I need to keep me going on the days when I’d much sooner stay inside.

Chris Mitchell

CHRIS MITCHELL | COMMITTEE MEMBER

After five failed attempts at a sub two-hour half marathon, and with a frustratingly static parkrun PB time, I almost decided to take up golf, instead, I joined Strollers. That was nine months ago.  With regular runs, regular fun and easy camaraderie, Strollers has proved to be a very friendly and inclusive club. I hope by joining the committee this year I will be able to help in a small way to keep the club delivering on this promise for all members.
